Our Finishing Process
Built to be used.
Every Iron Timbers hardwood table is finished by hand using a premium oil system built for real-world use. We use Rubio Monocoat, a high-performance oil that bonds at the molecular level with the wood, creating a durable and highly water-resistant surface without forming a thick, artificial top layer.
Each table receives a minimum of two coats, carefully hand-rubbed to ensure deep penetration, even coverage, and a rich, natural look. The final result is a smooth satin finish, low sheen, not glossy—that highlights the natural grain of the wood while maintaining a clean, modern appearance.
For added protection, select tables also receive a ceramic top coat, increasing resistance to moisture, staining, and daily wear.
This isn’t a new or untested process. We’ve finished hundreds of tables using this exact system with virtually zero issues. It’s a finish we trust in our own homes, and one we stand behind for our clients.

Materials We Use
At Iron Timbers, we build our tables using only premium hardwoods—selected for their strength, stability, and long-term performance.
Our most popular species include walnut, white oak, red oak, ash, and maple, each offering its own unique grain pattern and character.
All of our lumber is sourced from trusted suppliers throughout the Midwest—widely known as the hardwood capital of the world. This allows us to stay close to the source, maintain consistency, and ensure we’re working with some of the highest quality material available.
Every board we use is kiln-dried to proper moisture levels before it ever enters our shop. That step is critical. It minimizes movement, improves stability, and ensures your table performs the way it should in a real home environment.
We don’t cut corners on materials because the foundation of a great table starts long before the first cut is made.
